This off strip delight may be one of Las Vegas’s best restaurants. How can you tell? Well, we’ve been to quite a few fine dining restaurants and when you ask them where to go off strip, the immediately say: ROSEMARY’S. That was good enough to get us to go there.

It has French American cuisine with influences from New Orleans and the south.

They have a prix fixe menu from $55 and Wednesday was LADIES night in which food is half price. Sunday’s is wine night with 1/2 priced bottles of wine.

We had the sampler platter to start: BBQ Texas Shrimp, Crab Boulets and Salmon Tartar WONDERFUL

We had halibut and the striped bass as entrees and again, the food was outstanding. Let me interject here with a comment about the service. IMPECCABLE. This is the best service we’ve had since we ate at Michaels, when it was still at Buffalo Bills. Both our server and his partner were on top of the menu, perfected suggestions for us and just plain terrific.

The Striped Bass came with: Andouille, Rock Shrimp & Fingerling Potato Hash, Hushpuppies & Creole Meuniere Sauce
The Halibut: Sautéed Garlic Spinach, Buttermilk Onion Crust & Chive Muscadet Butter Sauce
Both dishes were served medium rare as we asked.

The desserts are amazing and all in all this restaurant ranks in the TOP THREE of all we have been to over the last DECADE.

Make plans to get OFF the strip and into Rosemary’s!

Restaurant Guy Savoy

It’s hard to describe the experience of Restaurant Guy Savoy, located in Caesar’s Palace. Here’s how their website describes it:

RESTAURANT GUY SAVOY – THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE IN REFINED FINE DINING

Restaurant Guy Savoy is the only place in America to experience the elegant cuisine of Guy Savoy, one of France’s most revered and award-winning chefs.

Yep, that about says it. This is one of those “once in a lifetime” meals that is worth saving up for. Hey, you have no problem dropping $300 in the slots, so why not have a great experience? This was it for us.

You look at the menu prices and tighten up a bit, but hey, when Franck Savoy, Guy’s son comes to your table and takes your order, you say, whoa….. cool. And it’s not like the servers weren’t some of the best ever.

Here’s an example of the a la carte menu:

Roasted Veal Chop, Black Truffle Potato Purée, Young Vegetables Braised in Veal Jus
Côte de Veau Juste Rôtie, Purée de Pommes de Terre à la Truffe Noire,
Légumes Braisés au Jus de Veau (Préparation pour 2 personnes) 160

Poussin “en Cocotte”, Basmati Rice and Albufera Jus
Poussin «en Cocotte », Riz Basmati et Jus Albufera 80

Crispy Veal Sweetbreads, Petite Potato and Black Truffle Sandwiches
Ris de Veau Rissolés, « Petits Chaussons » de Pommes de Terre et Truffes 75

American Prime Beef Tenderloin and Paleron “à la Française”
Filet de Boeuf et Paleron Américains « à la Française » 75

Yes, let’s catch our breath. They have a few prix fixe menus, we chose the TGV menu, which unfortunately we can’t link, but it worked out to be better priced than the a la carte menu.
We had black truffle soup, tremendous, the sea bass was perfection.

We had excellent service, including a table side bread service, many amuse buche and when it came to dessert, we had chocolat that was so .. chocolat-y.

They even had a chocolate foam that was the consistency of … dishwashing liquid.

Save this one for your anniversary, your proposing to your lover, but GET HERE when you can.

This is a wonderful addition to the strip, located in the Palazzo Hotel on the Casino Level. If you love meat, this is the place for you. Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich have done a marvelous job of combining casual elegance with an outstanding menu. Be warned, this is not inexpensive but it passes the “did we feel cheated” test with flying colors.

Take a look at a sample of the appetizers:

HOUSE-CURED PASTRAMI
local duck egg and emerald butter lettuce $17

BEEF CARPACCIO
warm lardo crostini $18

GRILLED OCTOPUS
fresh citrus and chilies $21

Their pasta dishes are served as appetizer portions but can be served as entrees:

PAPPARDELLE with ‘porcini trifolati’ $22
BUCATINI ALL’ AMATRICIANA $15
RICOTTA CAVATELLI with broccoli $15
FARFALLE sweet shrimp and herb pesto $20
ORECCHIETTE sweet sausage and broccoli rabe $17 Phenomenal

VEAL CHOP 20 oz Bone in $75 Completely worth the price
VEAL SCALOPPINE porcini and marsala $32

PORK CHOP 20 oz Bone in – $35 Brined for days and WONDERFUL, possibly the best meat I’ve EVER had…EVER….

This is a good dining experience, the wait staff are completely knowledgeable about the menu, the location is good, the setting nice, with the option of private rooms. They do have an annex area across the hall, which can be a bit noisy, so ask for the main restaurant.

One of the BEST in Las Vegas

Cafe Montclair

One of our favorite restaurants just received a review in the current edition of Inland Living Magazine. Click the link below to read the article. They are on page 21.
Inland Living Magazine-Cafe Montclair

We wrote our first review a year ago and now, we are regulars here.

Why? Because I can come in one night and get a lamb chop special, and the next time come for fish and chips. A fabulous burger or a seafood pasta that’s totally delicious. A Caesar salad or a bone-in rib-eye.

How regular? Four to five times a week. Why go anywhere else, when we can vary our menu on a regular basis? It makes no sense to go to a Mimi’s when we can get better food at Cafe Montclair.

We had a party of 32 for my birthday in the sunroom and everything went smoothly as can be. The dinners came out together, all done perfectly.

The desserts are terrific. Owner Dennis Sperat takes pride in creating these desserts with excellent ingredients. If you like cheesecake (unfortunately, I don’t), he’s got one for you. Apple dumplings are a favorite, but the bread pudding is outstanding and their blackberry pie is terrific.

We recommend this restaurant with pleasure. Thanks, Dennis and Monique for creating a place that we simply love.

Rabi

Rabi’s Cafe
930 N. Central Ave
Upland, CA 91786

All is well! Jouni’s Cafe, which closed last year has been re-opened as Rabi’s Cafe. Rabi is short for Rabia’a, who was your typical wise-cracking waitress for Jacob Jouni. She and husband Ahmed have made this local favorite their own.

The cafe has been given a much needed facelift, new floor, new booths, new tables and new paint and much less wall art. It gives it such a clean, open appearance now.

After being open just a day, so many of Rabi’s regulars were back. That’s customer loyalty right there. We hadn’t been there is almost a year and Rabia’a remembered our drink preference and how we like our toast. Jacob was on hand to help the new cooks provide the best food for the opening week.

And best of all, the CHICKEN FRIED STEAK is still on the menu. Frankly, it’s an item that makes Rabi’s a destintion. Hand pounded and breaded, it’s not your machine cut portions and the gravy was delicious.

Only open for breakfast and lunch, this new cafe has reduced the menu offerings, which makes it much easier to make a decision on what you want. We’ll add to the review as we go back a second, third, fourth time. But until then,

THIS ONE IS A KEEPER!

MENU

Luxurious fine dining at it’s best. The waiters are tuxedoed, and you’d feel better if you were dressed too. A wonderful spot for a nice meal. This is old school, and not cutting edge, but there are other places for that.

There is a chef’s tasting menu, 8 courses. Their menu includes foie gras, perfectly done. Wagyu beef and venison are on the menu as well.

Treat yourself and take in the Palace Arms
